Two Mick Barnfather Workshops Mar 13–21
Posted February 20, 2010
Note: Posted as received.
Two workshops with the same amazing teacher: Mick Barnfather arrives this March to unleash his genius of comedic teachings in two separate workshops.
Clown & Comedy
This workshop will be very much looking to find what is uniquely funny about each person and how they can make that accessible to an audience. When people have fun and play instinctively, they start to play the fool, tell stories, joke, and discover their creativity. It will concentrate mainly on the clown (non big shoes/squirty flowers kind) and the pleasure to be ridiculous in the space. The clown moves from one flop to the next always happy and optimistic to be playing before an audience. There are many confusions and disasters in a clown show, but there are never any doubts. The clown is joyful, playful, mischievous, and full of fantasy.
Clown & Comedy is five full days split over two weekends:
Sat/Sun March 13 & 14
Fri/Sat/Sun March 19, 20, & 21
10–4:30pm
Comedic Character
Have you been storing away little ideas for possible comedic characters to develop but never had the chance to get on your feet with them? Or have you been playing your original characters for quite some time and they need the dust shaken off them? Perhaps you have no idea what "character" means? If any of these questions awaken a little light in you, you'll probably need to come see how Mick is able to draw completely unique, funny, viable, human characters out of just about anyone. In this workshop, Mick encourages the participants to use their fun and playfulness as a creative catalyst, then to be bigger than maybe they thought possible so as to make themselves accessible to an audience. Playing a character is not hiding behind and being lost in the characterization but finding the freedom to play someone else. What's your character?
Comedic Character is three nights:
Tues/Wed/Thurs March 16, 17, & 18
7–10pm
