Note: Posted as received.
The Adult Education Program at SLAM is pleased to announce the addition of new Adult PopAction classes starting in October!
PopAction with Brian Brooks
Mondays, 10:30am–12pm (Beginning October 5)
Choreographer Brian Brooks teaches this PopAction Technique class, based on the methods developed by "Action Architect" Elizabeth Streb since the 1980s. This class provides dancers with the tools to move with power and precision, making immediate adjustments to skeletal alignment, muscular engagement, and spatial placement. Warm-up and strengthening exercises increase upper body and core strength in an effort to hold one's body weight. The entire surface of the body is used for support on landings, not simply the bottoms of the feet. This class takes place primarily on a mat floor with different structures introduced each week including the wall, climbing truss, and trampoline. Designed for advanced dancers, this class requires no gymnastic experience.
Beginner PopAction with Ami Ipapo, Streb company member
Thursdays 6–7pm (Beginning October 1)
An introduction to Elizabeth Streb's innovative, athletic, impact-based technique that serves as the foundation for the Streb Extreme Action Company's work. PopAction intertwines the techniques of dance, circus art, extreme sports, and Hollywood stunt work to provide a unique physical experience. Professional dancers, trained athletes, and non-movers alike can learn the basic skills of falling and flying in a safe but challenging environment. Our "personal best" philosophy means anyone can be an action hero!
Open Level PopAction with Ami Ipapo, Streb company member
Thursdays 7–8:30pm (Beginning October 1)
Advance your skills in this open-level class that applies the PopAction technique to movement sequences, pieces of equipment, and classic STREB repertory. Fall further, fly higher, and get ready to GO!
