New England Center for Circus Arts Aerial Workshops in Brooklyn

The New England Center for Circus Arts is on the forefront of modern aerial training. With their safe, methodical approach and detailed aerial vocabulary, even the most intricate maneuvers become approachable to the aerial student.
Join NECCA founder and former Cirque du Soleil performer Elsie Smith for aerial fabric workshops and private lessons on fabric, sling/hammock, lyra, or trapeze. Age 16 & above or permission of instructor.
Please register in advance as class size is limited to eight students.
Aerial Fabric: Intermediate/Advanced
Friday, July 17, 6–9pm
Cost: $80
With special attention to proper technique and body posture we'll delve into more complex technique and intricate vocabulary. Students must be comfortable inverting in the air, know basic foot locks/keys, and be able to get into a cross back straddle. (If you have any questions please contact Elsie at traptwins@gmail.com).
Slings & Hammocks: Some aerial experience necessary
Saturday, July 18, 10am–1pm
Cost: $80
Learn choreography and drops on this fun apparatus. Some aerial experience necessary (bar work or vertical work is appropriate experience).
Private lessons
Available times: Friday, July 17, 2:30–3:25pm; 3:30–4:25pm; 4:25–5:25pm
Saturday, July 18, 1:15–2:10pm; 2:15–3:10pm; 3:15– 4:10pm
Cost: $80 for 1 person;
$100 for 2 people to share
Private lessons are available on aerial fabric, web/rope, lyra/hoop, sling/hammock, & solo and duo trapeze. Beginner through advanced students welcome. Learn new skills, or work on act choreography and creative transitions. To set up your private lesson please email info@necenterforcircusarts.org.
About NECCA and the Instructor:
Elsie Smith is a circus performer specializing in performing and teaching aerial skills. She choreographs for circus, dance, and theater and offer workshops and residencies to circus schools, dance companies, and performers. She has performed with many well-known companies including Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Le Masque, Cirque Productions, and at special events for Hewlett Packard, Coca Cola, ReMax Canada, and Mohegan Sun Casino. Performing with her twin sister, she received a Special Award at the China Wuqiau International Circus Festival in 2007 and the Bronze Medal at the First International Festival de Circo en Albacete, Spain in 2008.
Her teaching credits include Pilobolus, Circus Smirkus, the Actor's Gymnasium, Circus Juventus, Umo Ensemble, Air Dance Bernesconi, Pendulum Aerial Dance Theater, University of GA CORE Dance Company, Sea World San Antonio, Canopy Aerial Dance Studio, the Aerial Dance Festival, the Sport Acrobatics and New Circus Arts School in Seattle, and the San Francisco Circus Center.
In 2003 the twins founded Nimble Arts, a Vermont-based circus production company and builder of aerial equipment. In the beginning they also taught classes, but in 2007 they transitioned into the New England Center for Circus Arts. Elsie is the Artistic Director at NECCA and a lead instructor.
