Free LED Hula Hoop Class April 16
Posted April 11, 2008
Note: This sounds awesome or at least no matter how it turns out,
it's great that someone's offering this. It says there's an April 10
deadline, but the instructor says he's got plenty of materials and
plenty of room, so it's okay to sign up now, and if you have any
problems doing so, just contact him directly (info below). Posted as
received/cobbled together from the website.
Free DIY LED Hula Hoop class this Wednesday at 3rd Ward
in Brooklyn. Details are at the bottom of this page and at 3rdward.com/classes/apr/diy.
The class is free but if you want to make a hoop you'll need the
materials which only cost $45 as opposed to assembled ones which are
$100 to $300. This is the cheapest and fastest way to get into an LED
Hula Hoop since I will be there to instruct and assist. I will also be
happy to help repair your LED hoop if you have one. And you can make
the thinner tube version if you like.
Feel free to contact me with any questions: prodmod.com/contact/
Thanks
Mike

A hula hoop on its own is a pretty good time and decent exercise. Add
a few colored LEDs and you have yourself a party hoop! Light up hoops
are used by dancers, performers, entertainers, and just for fun. These
hoops are popular at festivals like burningman and at some dance clubs
around the world. LED hoops purchased fully assembled can cost
anywhere from $100 to $300. But if you get the right parts together
you can make yours for a fraction of the cost!
Instructions for the LED Hula Hoop were featured in Craft Magazine in
early February and the thin version of the DIY LED Hula Hoop kit was
sold on prodmod.com shortly after. A new thicker more
professional sized hoop kit is to be featured in the Maker Store and
Maker Faire in early May but you'll get to make it first at 3rd Ward.
Sign up for this class now and get the instructor's help on April 16th
before this NYC-based kit maker heads out west to showcase at the
Maker Fair in the San Francisco Bay area.
The workshop is free, but you'll need to buy the kit for materials.
The normal cost of this kit is $59 + shipping. But students of this
workshop enjoy no shipping charges and additional discounts. You pay
only $45!!
You can buy and reserve your kit for the workshop by following the
link on 3rdward.com/classes/apr/diy.
Payment must be received by April 10th to secure your material. This
is a one time pricing for this night only, and only if you attend the
workshop. Kits will only be picked up at the workshop location. And
you must call 3rd ward to reserve your spot in the class as
well.
Tools:
A selection of tools will be available to share, but bring your own if
you can. Soldering is optional --This kit has been redesigned so that
you can make a fully functioning LED hoop with no soldering. Otherwise
bring your own soldering iron.

Power Drill/Screwdriver with drill bits
Knife - swiss army or leather man etc.
Your swinging hips!
