Cirque du Soleil to Open New NYC Shows
Posted April 30, 2009
Cirque du Soleil has confirmed plans to establish a permanent presence
in New York City beginning with a new show scheduled to open at the Beacon Theater in April 2010 and a
different new show slated for a four-month run at Radio City Music
Hall in summer 2011. It will also continue to produce its winter NYC
show, Wintuk at the Wamu Theater at Madison Square Garden.
The same company, Madison Square Garden Entertainment, programs all
three venues.
The first new show, which will be directed by David Shiner, is tentatively titled Vaudeville (official title to be announced in September, 2009). It's previewing this November–December in Chicago before coming to New York, where it is scheduled for a three- to six-month run. Find out more about it here.

Run
Away to the Circus? No Need. It's Staying Here
by Glenn Collins (April 28, 2009).
The French-Canadian company has, at least temporarily, abandoned its
original plans to build a space on Manhattan's west side, but in
addition to those three NYC-only shows, it brings its tented
productions here annually and runs a year-round circus skills program
at the Point in the South Bronx as part of its worldwide Cirque du
Monde social circus program.
