"Metro" at Bushwick Starr March 6-8
Posted February 5, 2008
Note: Bushwick Starr is cool, and so is Rob Lok, and beyond that
your guess is as good as ours. Posted as received.
Metro is a visual play influenced by the classical European circus,
musical theater conventions of dance to communicate emotion, and
street performance such as mime and clown. The premise of the show is
driven by the dehumanization of society as we use methods of escape
such as iPods and cell phones to seclude ourselves within our own
thoughts. The characters in Metro are trapped in a crowded subway car
where they attempt to ignore each other. The play weaves in and out of
their thoughts using dance, acrobatics and other physical conventions
to visually display each characters' thought process, similar to a
live action music video.Metro features an eclectic cast of performers
ranging from Grotowski and Leqoc trained actors, to dancers and circus
performers: Carol Sirugo, Daren Taylor, Elizabeth Stewart, Kari
Warchock, Kathleen Schlemmer, Michael Porsche, Ophra Wolf, and Rob
Lok.
