Simply Circus Requests Support Letters by Feb 10

Note: Here's an easy way to help a colleague and support the
development of circus arts in America. Posted as
received.
As many of you know, Simply Circus is in the process of opening a
3800sqft full-time circus training facility in Newton, MA.
Well, we have run into a bizarre zoning issue with the city, and we
need some help from the greater community to help us resolve
it.
Long story short, the city of Newton is requiring us to get a special
use variance permit to use this industrial zoned building for an
educational purpose. Part of what the city has asked us to do is show
industry support
for this in addition to the community support that is already being
shown.
We need as many letters of support for our program as we can get.
Letters on official letterhead will carry the most weight in this
matter, but letters from individuals are just as helpful.
If you have ever attended one of our workshops, if you use our
websites as a resource, if you use one of the insurance groups we set
up, or if have otherwise found us to be a good resource, we now need
your help.
We need paper letters, complete with signature(s), sent to us within
the next 14 days (PDF's with signatures are OK too). Letters should be
addressed to the "Newton Board of Aldermen", but should be mailed to
us so
that they can be collected and presented to the board in accordance
with their rules.
If we knew what the city wanted out of these letter, it would be a lot
easier. From the community letters, they wanted things that basically
attest to the educational value of our programs. From the industry
letters, I assume they are looking for something similar – do you make
use of our online resources, have you benefited by taking a workshop
with us at one of the conferences, are you working on the aerial
rigging project with us, etc.
What it really comes down to is that despite the fact that we do
programs in the city's public schools—and have for five years
now—the city is scared of the unknown, and to them, this is
about as unknown as it gets. The more industry groups that are saying
"we know Simply Circus, we have benefited from them being here, and
the city will too," the more comfortable they will be with this (we
hope).
