Introduction to Clown Apr 7-15
Posted February 11, 2012
Jump into your body, open like a little flower, rediscover your
playful spirit and the simple pleasure and ferocious generosity of
performance. In this workshop we pursue the clown together in all of its messy and hilarious beauty. Your relationship to all other forms of drama will be enriched by the openness and reckless abandon that the clown requires.

Instructors: Christopher Bayes and Virginia Scott

Admission is open to all students.

Christopher Bayes is the Head of Physical Acting at the Yale School of Drama. Previously he has served as director of movement and physical theater at the Brown University/Trinity Repertory Theater Consortium and has been a faculty member of the Yale School of Drama, The Juilliard School, NYU's Graduate Acting Program at The Tisch School of the Arts, The Actors Center, and The Shakespeare Theater's Academy for Classical Acting in Washington D.C. He is a master teacher of
physical comedy/clown. Chris is also the movement director of The 39 Steps and the director of the acclaimed productions of The Servant of Two Masters and A Doctor In Spite of Himself, which continue to play regionally.

Virginia Scott has taught clown at the Actor’s Center, the Michael
Howard Studios, Movement Theater Studios, Manhattan Marymount College, CAP 21, and Ramapo College. With Christopher Bayes, Virginia founded The Funny School of Good Acting and is one of only a handful of teachers certified to teach Bayes' clown technique. Currently, she is working on a book with Bayes detailing his approach to clown. Her work as a director and deviser has been seen in New York at UCB, The Irish Repertory Theatre, Ars Nova, 59E59, The New York Fringe Festival, and the International Clown Festival; regionally at The US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, The Comedy Central Theater in Los Angeles, and UCB LA in Los Angeles; and internationally at The Guilded Balloon in Edinburgh, The Centaur Theatre in Montreal, the Grahamstown International Festival in South Africa and festivals throughout Canada.
