Children's Circus Seeks Teaching Artists (CT) Jul 2-Aug 5
Posted February 17, 2012
The Children’s Circus of Middletown seeks teaching artists for our 24th annual summer circus program. Interested applicants should have experience teaching and working with kids and possess a strong base of circus performance and directing skills. This five-week program provides instruction in circus arts to over 200
children between the ages of 8 and 15. The Children’s Circus of Middletown culminates in a huge outdoor performance with 200+ performers and over a thousand spectators.
Circus artists plan and teach four classes per work day: a basic introductory class to all participants in the first week, more advanced classes to participants who select their discipline for the following two weeks culminating in mini-performances. In the final two weeks, circus artists direct two separate acts for the final performance. Circus camp counselors assist and support circus artists.
All circus teaching artists are responsible for creating fun, safe, effective, and engaging lesson plans that provide students with challenges, goals, and results.
See below for specific disciplines and requirements:
Clowning Instructor – Interested candidates should have experience working with children. The clowning instructor must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in the art of clowning, slapstick, mime, and/or pie throwing. The clowning instructor is responsible for directing young people to create their own clown characters and vignettes.
Stilting Instructor – Interested applicants should have experience working with children. The stilting instructor is responsible for teaching kids how to stilt safely and effectively. The stilting instructor should possess advanced stilting tricks and techniques to continuously provide additional challenges and goals for students to reach. The instructor should have knowledge of walking, stalling, and falling. Experience directing and creating stilt choreography a plus.
