Note: Posted as received.
Position available immediately; must be able to start no later than August 31, 2009.
Circus Harmony is St. Louis' only circus school and social circus program. Our mission is to teach the art of life through circus education. We work to build character and expand community for youth of all ages, cultures, abilities, and backgrounds. Through teaching and performance of circus skills, we help people defy gravity, soar with confidence, and leap over social barriers, all at the same time.
Lead aerial coach teaches classes to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. We currently offer single, double, and triple trapeze, Spanish web, lyra, fabric (although we do have been an outside teacher we have been using for advanced fabric), and aerial cube. Majority of classes are on site but must be willing to teach at offsite locations as well. Will need own car. Primary responsibilities are aerial but best candidate will also have experience teaching acrobatics, equilibristics, and object manipulation. Must be able to handle administrative duties. Knowledge of computers, graphics, marketing, and social media a huge plus.
Need someone versed in all above-mentioned apparatus who can create curricula for classes and can also teach in a very individualized manner. Seeking teaching artist who can teach correct technique and also help students develop their own style. We want each student to find their own performing persona (or experiment with different persona) and create something unique to them.
We are looking for someone who can handle the responsibility and challenge of managing and developing an aerial department. We do three 10-week sessions Sept–May and then offer summer camp and mini (four-week) sessions over the summer. You would be part of a small team of some of the most knowledgeable circus and social circus professionals in the country.
Our school is based inside of a working museum. We do a lot of performing at this school. We teach advantaged and disadvantaged, young and old, strong and not-yet-strong, shy and bold. You can see a number of our acts if you go to YouTube.com and search "Circus Harmony."
If interested, please email resume to circuslady@circusharmony.org. Also, send references and what you see as your strengths and weaknesses as well your reasons for applying for this job.
This is a tremendous opportunity for the right person! Could it be you?!
