circus fan with the right skills. Not in NYC but potentially worth
relocating--Sarasota is beautiful, and the museum is super cool.

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Fellowships 2008-2009
The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Florida State University,
located in Sarasota, Florida, is providing a high quality, practical
work experiences to help launch a museum career for recent graduates
of advanced degree programs. Two Fellowships are available. These
are one-year appointments with an anticipated starting date of June
12. Salary is $24,500 plus full benefits. Application deadline is
March 3, 2008.
Circus Museum Fellowship, #24566, The primary project will be to
undertake assessment of the Circus Museum's paper collections with
special emphasis on the circus poster and herald collections. The
successful candidate will evaluate these collections, identify
problems and needs, and with the Museum's curators and conservator,
develop a long-range plan for ongoing conservation work. This exciting
and challenging position involves working with a unique historical
collection as well as participating in exhibition design and working
with the Circus Museum's digital program. The fellow will also be
part of the team that will develop and design a new 20,000 sq. ft.
addition to the circus museum. Knowledge of paper conservation is
helpful.
Collections Management FELLOWSHIP, #24568, The Collections Management
Department bears the responsibility and functions that provide for the
accessibility, accountability, utility, and preservation of the
collections and associated data at The John and Mable Ringling Museum
of Art. The Fellow's primary projects will be divided into four
quarterly sessions. The first two quarters will concentrate on
re-housing, storage, documentation (electronic as well as object
files), and photography of a select group of objects in two different
venues that form the Museum; the historic house Cà d'Zan, and the
Circus Museum. Creating IPM standards and a housekeeping manual for
the Art Museum will be the focus of the third quarter. The fourth
quarter will focus on logistics for acquisitions, exhibitions, and
loans. The goal of the Fellowship is for the Fellow to be a valued,
productive member of the Museum staff, as well as gaining invaluable
experience and tangible projects that can be used to further a resume
or future education.
The Ringling Museum of Art, in its affiliation with Florida State
University, is the largest museum/university complex in the nation.
Located on an impressive 66-acre estate on Sarasota Bay, it preserves
the legacy of John and Mable Ringling, educating and enabling a large
and diverse audience to experience and take delight in a
world-renowned collection of fine art and special exhibitions; Cà
d'Zan, the Ringling historic mansion; the Circus Museum; the Tibbals
Learning Center; the Original Asolo Theater; and historic
architecture, courtyard, gardens and grounds overlooking Sarasota Bay.
Newly opened in 2007 were the Arthur F. and Ulla R. Searing Wing and
the Education Conservation Building housing the library, conservation
facility, classrooms and staff offices. The Visitors Pavilion serves
some 350,000 annual guests. Florida State University, the Museum's
parent institution, also operates two performing arts venues that,
with Ringling, constitute the FSU/Ringling Cultural Center. For more
